The GST registration certificate is a legal document that serves as a proof for GST registration in India. Any firm in India that has a revenue that exceeds the GST registration criteria is required to register under GST. Certain firms, such as casual taxable people, non-resident taxable persons, and others, are required to register under GST.

Individuals who have registered for GST are given a GST Registration Certificate in form GST REG-06. Those who have obtained a GST registration certificate must display it clearly at their place of business. Obtaining a GST certificate is a straightforward process. We’ll give you an outlook on how to receive your GST certificate from the GST Portal in this post.

About GST Registration Certificate

The government does not distribute physical certificates, and the registration certificate is only accessible for download on the GST Portal. Regular taxpayers, GST, TDS and TCS applicants, those obliged to receive a unique identity number under Section 25(9) of the CGST Act, non-residents, including those supplying OIDAR services, and taxpayers who moved from pre-GST legislation are all instances of taxpayers. This certificate must be displayed at the taxpayer’s principal business location as well as any additional locations listed on Form GST REG-06.

CGST Rule 18 specifies this, and any breach can result in a fine of up to Rs.25,000. The certificate has no expiration date if it is issued to all regular taxpayers. As long as the GST registration is not relinquished or terminated, it remains valid. Because a GST registration is only valid for ninety days, the registration certificate of a casual taxable individual becomes invalid after ninety days. The taxpayer, on the other hand, has the option of extending or renewing the validity term.

Who is eligible to obtain GST registration certificate?

According to Section 22 of the CGST/SGST Act 2017, any vendor who makes a taxable supply, that is, a supply of GST-eligible products and/or services, and whose aggregate turnover in a financial year exceeds the threshold limit of twenty lakh rupees, is required to register in the state or union territory of Delhi or Pondicherry where the taxable supply is made. Even though their entire revenue is less than the threshold limit of 20 lakh rupees, Sec 24 of the CGST Act outlines those sorts of suppliers who must register for GST.
